2024 RULES

            Items to remember:

  • No competing against yourself in a category. Example-Being in one film scene from Stranger Things and in another film scene from Rambo.

  • We encourage a maximum of two to three competition pieces. However, there is no maximum number of categories per participant. There are four rounds of preliminary competition, and there is always the possibility that a student may be double-scheduled for one round. Students should understand that if a round is complete before they arrive in the room (due to double-booking or any other reason), they may be skipped (and therefore not evaluated).

  • Avoid profanity and other sensitive topics. This is up to teacher discretion. Our festival uses professional judges who all have different barometers for "appropriate" - it is in your best interest to choose material that is appropriate for all ages, but your entry will not be disqualified based on content. Additionally, because the public is welcome to attend, you may be performing your piece in front of grandparents, younger siblings, etc.

  • Costumes and Props can be used in competition. We like to remind you that the intent of this festival is to be simple and focused on the acting. Suggestion of costumes are always a great direction to go as opposed to purchasing a giant ball gown but this is up to teacher discretion as well.

  • Stage weapons must be registered at school check-in/registration and given to festival staff to be brought to the competition room. Teachers may pick up any materials that were checked in after awards in the Black Box Theater.

  • Do not wear clothing during competition that states any school name. We don't want to create any biased environments with the judges.

SAFETY

  • Festival Staff suggest keeping your students on campus at all times.

  • We are working on providing some on campus lunch options for you and your students to insure students are not leaving campus.

  • We are an open campus and public are welcome to attend. Please make plans to have check ins scheduled with your students to insure they are with you and on campus.

  • Please alert any volunteer immediately if you feel someone is intruding on campus and not a part of celebrating the event.
