Monologue from a Play

Rules

  • 3 minutes max

  • 1 actor

  • Time Periods: Classic - Anything published prior to 1880. Modern - published between 1881 and 1999. Contemporary - published between 2000 and present. 

  • If there has been a film version of the piece, please make sure you register this selection in the CLASSIC/MODERN/CONTEMPORARY MONOLOGUE category and not the FILM/TV MONOLOGUE category.

  • 6 entries per school max, per time period. 18 total monologues from a play from your school. 

    • Please be ready to designate the selection as comedic or dramatic during registration. We may choose to further divide the category into drama/comedy if there is an increase in registrations for this category.

​EXAMPLES:
  • ​If you are doing a modern translation of a Greek play, you should submit it into the Classical Monologue category. 
  • If you are doing a play written 5 years ago that has language that is similar to Shakespeare (verse, iambic pentameter, etc), you should put it into the Contemporary Monologue category. 
  • If you are doing a modern play that is inspired by a classical source, you should put it in the Contemporary Monologue category.
  • If you are choosing the Queen Mab speech from Romeo and Juliet, please make sure to register in the Classical Monologue category.
